Use OwnPost with your assistant

Install the ownpost skill, connect your workspace and turn your notes into a saved draft.

Requires access to the OwnPost repository. Installation and client options

Before you start

Start with ownpost. The plugin includes 15 skills covering posts, blogs, editions, writing profiles and the rest of the workspace. The entry skill includes every workflow; specialist skills are optional shortcuts.

  1. Have a running OwnPost workspace and complete owner setup.

  2. For the complete plugin, download your assistant’s package from /settings/plugins in OwnPost. For the direct skill command above, accept your repository invitation and authenticate Git; Node.js/npm and a compatible local client are required.

  3. Authorize your workspace through the assistant’s browser sign-in flow, or use a separate connection key from Settings → Connections → AI writing → AI assistant. Everyday post drafting and preference edits need Full workspace tools.

Install the entry skill

Choose your assistant in the command tabs above and run the command. Open a fresh conversation and select ownpost from the skill picker. Omit --global for a project-only installation.

Already installed the OwnPost plugin? The skill is included, so select it in your client. Keep one active installation per client.

Try a first draft

Ask your assistant to list your OwnPost accounts first. Then select the ownpost skill and try this example with your own facts.

Notes: We added search to saved Ideas today. It searches titles, source text and creators.

Save a draft to my Main account and show me the saved text and link.

Open the link and check the text, account and Draft status. A writing request saves a private draft; automatic publication needs a separate approval.

Permissions and scheduled work

Your connection controls what the assistant can do. Preparation-only access handles assigned preparation jobs. Drafting and preference changes need Full workspace tools. Publication also needs a separate publishing grant and an existing owner-approved job.

A planned post normally creates a manual reminder. Ordinary routines run through OwnPost’s scheduler; generated preparation needs a connected client to execute it. Check the returned saved item and status after each request.

Updates and troubleshooting

Skill missing: restart the client and check whether you installed it globally or for one project. Back up customizations before removing duplicate copies.

For a CLI-managed installation, use npx skills@latest list --global to inspect it and npx skills@latest update ownpost --global to update. Reinstall from the application repository if an older copy tracks the previous standalone repository.

For a plugin, use your client’s update flow. For local copies, update your authenticated checkout and reinstall the files matching your application release.

ChatGPT web and mobile need the account plugin and OAuth connection. The terminal command above installs local files only.
